Privacy policy
Last updated: August 31, 2026
Sift (“we”, “us”) is a browser extension and service that compares offers across merchants when you ask it to. This policy describes what we collect, why, and what we never do.
What we collect, and when
Sift collects information only when you take an explicit action — typing a search, clicking “Check this page”, or choosing “Find Better Options” on text you highlighted. We do not read, track, or transmit your browsing activity at any other time.
When you take one of those actions, we receive:
- The text you typed or highlighted, and the page’s title, address, and visible price — only for the page you acted on.
- An anonymous identifier generated by the extension (random, not derived from you or your device), used to credit cashback to you and to prevent click fraud. It is not linked to your name, email, or accounts.
- When you click View Deal: which offer you clicked, when, and your IP address (used for fraud prevention).
- When a merchant later reports that a tracked click led to a purchase: the order amount and status, which we use to calculate commissions and your cashback. We do not receive what you bought beyond what the merchant’s affiliate program reports.
What we never collect
- Your browsing history, or anything from pages you did not act on.
- Names, email addresses, passwords, or payment details.
- Login credentials or account access for any merchant, including eBay.
Marketplace content
Offer listings (prices, sellers, shipping) come from merchant and marketplace APIs, including the eBay APIs, and are displayed only while current — cached results expire within minutes and are then refreshed or deleted. Where a seller’s public username appears, it is shown only while that information is publicly visible on the marketplace. Our use of eBay content follows the eBay Developers Program license, and our handling of any related personal information is consistent with the eBay Privacy Notice; we process such information for no purpose beyond operating Sift’s comparison and cashback features.
What we do with information
We use the data above to run the service: identify products you ask about, fetch and rank offers, track the clicks you choose to make, credit cashback, and prevent fraud. Ranking is based on what is best for you (total price, delivery, seller quality); commissions we may earn never reorder organic results.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their marketing. The only thing we send affiliate networks is a random click identifier — never who you are. When you choose a deal, your browser then connects to the seller or its network directly, as with any link on the web; from that point their privacy policies apply, and we encourage you to review them.
Retention and deletion
Click and conversion records are kept as long as needed to reconcile commissions and cashback, and for fraud prevention. Cached marketplace content is deleted when it expires. Personal information received through a marketplace API is deleted when it is no longer needed for the purpose it was collected, when the marketplace requires it, or on request. To reset your anonymous identifier at any time, remove and reinstall the extension.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may have the right to know, delete, or correct the information we hold. Because the extension’s identifier is anonymous, most of what we hold cannot be tied to you by us; where it can, contact us and we will honor verified requests.
Contact
Sift is currently in private beta. Questions and requests can be sent through the contact details on our Chrome Web Store listing once published; a direct contact address will be posted here at public launch.
Changes
We will post any changes to this policy at this address with an updated date. Material changes will be noted in the extension’s listing.
